Building Skills for the Future of Gippsland
TAFE Gippsland is building new campus facilities and upgrading existing campuses to deliver high quality training facilities in Sale, Morwell and Warragul.
Our campus redevelopment projects will ensure students of all ages and people who wish to re-skill can be trained in modern, high quality fit-for-purpose facilities that prepare them for career opportunities in traditional and emerging local industries.
Our plans are informed by feedback from our students and our communities, who tell us they want a better student experience, improved training facilities, quality teaching and industry-relevant skills training.
Over recent years, we engaged with local government, schools, industry and business in Wellington Shire, Latrobe City and Baw Baw Shire to better understand the vocational education and training needs in these regions.
We will continue to engage with our staff, students, community, schools, industry and business to deliver these projects and ensure we are meeting the current and future needs of our Gippsland communities.

Our capital projects by campus
A redeveloped Morwell campus
A $35.5 million Victorian State Government-funded redevelopment of our Morwell campus has delivered modern, new, high-quality training facilities in the heart of the Latrobe Valley. The second and final stage of the project was completed at the end of 2021 and was officially opened on 11 March 2022. You can view the original fly-through video animation below.
The campus redevelopment project was delivered in two stages and sits alongside the new Morwell Innovation Centre on our Morwell campus site.
The Health and Early Childhood Training Centre (Stage 1) was completed in July 2020, and was officially opened by the Minister for Training & Skills, Hon Gayle Tierney, on Monday 29 March 2021.
Construction of our new Morwell Trade Skills Centre (Stage 2), began in mid-2020 and was completed in December 2021. Trade training commenced in Term 1, 2022 and Minister Tierney was joined by Victorian Premier Hon Daniel Andrews to open the MTSC ion Friday 11 March 2022.
The completed Morwell Trade Skills Centre houses vocational trade training courses including Electrotechnology, New Energy Technologies, Instrumentation and Plumbing. These courses move from Yallourn to Morwell campus in early 2022. Early Childhood Education and Care has already moved and is taking place in the new Health and Early Childhood Training Centre building at Morwell campus.
Traditional trade training, including Carpentry, Cabinet Making, Brick Laying, Painting & Decorating, Engineering and Automotive, continues to be delivered from TAFE Gippsland's Yallourn campus, along with Security and Construction and Work Safety Centre accredited training. Yallourn also hosts the new Bio-Manufacturing Training Centre opened in February 2021.
The Yallourn campus in Newborough will continue to deliver high-quality vocational training for the Moe and Newborough region for the foreseeable future. Important corporate management and administrative functions at TAFE Gippsland will also remain at our Yallourn campus.
TAFE Gippsland will work with all levels of government and our communities to identify further training and community/business partnership opportunities at Yallourn campus.
A new Port of Sale campus
In 2020, we began building our new $25 million, state-of-the-art campus at the Port of Sale. You can view the fly-over animation below.
TAFE Gippsland is funding the project following the sale of our former Chadstone campus to Holmesglen Institute of TAFE. Our new campus will deliver leading education and training facilities for a range of industry and academic disciplines, tailored to meet industry and community needs, and it will improve training access for students in Wellington Shire.
Widespread community consultation has informed course development and helped guide the architects, GHD Woodhead, in designing a TAFE building that will accommodate the vocational training required to match local employment availability and needs.
All preliminary works were finalised with McCorkell Constructions appointed to build the campus from December 2020. A formal sod turn was held on 16 December 2020 to launch the $25 million project.
Works progressed through 2021 despite minor delays associated with impacts of COVID-19 on the construction industry. The campus construction was completed in Q1 2022 and open to Wellington Shire students from beginning of Term 2.
An official opening event is scheduled to take place in early Term 3 of 2022. More details once an event date is confirmed.
The new Port of Sale campus will be fully accessible and will see most of our existing TAFE course offerings at Fulham campus consolidated into a new single purpose-built facility at the Port of Sale. Some specialised training, such as Aeroskills, has been transitioned to a new provider to better meet the needs of our students and employers in the aviation industry.
New courses also will be offered in Wellington Shire, with Health to be added to current TAFE training in Engineering, Carpentry, Automotive, Early Childhood and Hair and Beauty.
To accommodate the new courses, TAFE Gippsland will retain our Gtec campus on Cobains Rd to provide a specialised and inclusive learning experience to VCAL students.
We are also retaining and have expanded our Flexible Learning Centre, in the heart of Sale's CBD, to meet the increasing demand for TAFE training in Wellington Shire, provide flexible study hours and better accommodation for our staff. Work commenced on this expansion project in October 2020 and has now been completed. It will also host a Higher Education Study Hub for the Sale region.
An upgraded Warragul campus

A major multi-million dollar upgrade to our Warragul campus has delivered a better staff and student experience in fit-for-purpose facilities in 2021. The $6.25 million project will assist TAFE Gippsland in meeting the growing student demand for vocational training in the Warragul and Drouin peri-urban growth corridor.
The upgrade to the eastern end of the campus has delivered a new front entrance and new general-purpose training spaces to accommodate a number of new courses including Early Childhood and Care, along with refurbished staff accommodation and enhanced student amenities.
Site clearing works commenced in November 2020 and completed prior to Christmas. A builder, Becon Constructions, was appointed in early March 2021, and the $6.25 million project was completed in early 2022.
The campus project works were officially unveiled on Friday 29 April 2022 by MLC for Easter Victoria, Harriet Shing and TAFE Gippsland Board Chair Paul Buckley PSM.
The redeveloped Warragul campus will deliver on TAFE Gippsland’s commitment to the accommodation needs of our staff and the training needs of our students in the Warragul and Drouin region of western Gippsland.
