In accordance with Victorian Child Safe Standards and associated legislation, we promote an environment where children are protected from abuse of any kind, including physical violence, sexual offences and/or grooming, serious emotional or psychological abuse and serious neglect.
Our commitments
TAFE Gippsland is committed to:
- actively promoting a zero tolerance for child abuse with all allegations and safety concerns being treated very
- seriously and consistently with our procedural framework;
- engaging in practices which promote participation and empowerment of children;
- maintaining codes of practices and procedures to protect children from abuse;
- preventing child abuse, identifying risks early, and removing and reducing these risks by raising awareness and
- regularly providing training to staff, contractors and volunteers in safe behaviours and warning signs;
- promoting safety for children from indigenous and culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and
- providing a safe environment for children with a disability;
- treating all allegations and safety concerns seriously and consistently;
- appropriately inducting and regularly training staff and volunteers on child abuse risk; and
- conducting an annual risk assessment.
Our Child Safe Standards
Child safe reporting
Child safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Any report of safety concerns relating to a person under the age of 18 will be taken seriously and reported to the appropriate authorities.
How to report child abuse concerns
- Read our Reporting Child Abuse Procedure.
- If a child is at immediate risk of harm, you must notify police immediately and make a report by calling 000.
- If there is a risk to the safety of a child on a TAFE Gippsland campus, you will also need to contact us by calling 1300 475 146.
- In a non-urgent matter, police can also be contacted on the Non-Critical Reporting Hotline on 131 444.
