It’s not every day that you receive a letter from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second.
The Queen sends messages of congratulations if you reach 100 years of age or achieve significant wedding anniversaries such as Diamond (60th), 65th and Platinum (70th).
So for one Warragul-based student, Alexis Sullivan, a letter bearing the royal insignia was a right royal reply to a class project on kindness.
Foundation Studies Teacher, Gabrielle Durand, said Alexis decided she wanted to write to the Queen to advise her on our Kindness project.
“As part of our project unit for Certificate I in General Education for Adults, the students decided to take up a “Kindness Project” particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Gab explained.
"One student, Alexis, wanted to write to the Queen, and she received a letter back from Her Majesty’s Lady in Waiting congratulating her on our project and mentioning TAFE Gippsland.”
Gabrielle said the letter and the class project have provided a real boost to everyone’s spirits.
“Alexis was thrilled and we are all quite proud of her contribution to the overall project,” Gabrielle said.
“We also found a great app called ‘Padlet’ where our students could add their own ‘kindness stories’ and photos to the project page.”
For Alexis herself, getting a response to her letter was a wonderful surprise.
“Receiving the letter from the Queen was so exciting. Never did I expect a response back from her as she is quite busy with royal duties,” Alexis said.
Well done Alexis and congratulations to Gabrielle and students on a terrific project.
