Shanisha Simpson’s personal growth over the past 12 months has seen her flourish into a confident and engaging student at TAFE Gippsland.
Her successful completion of the Certificate II in Mumgu-dhal tyama-tiyt at the Bairnsdale campus in 2019, was inspiring as Shanisha balanced her course workload with demands of her small child who often came to class with her.
In 2020 Shanisha enrolled in a Certificate III in Mumgu-dhal tyama-tiyt, and her commitment to her studies, and to her mothering duties, has not hindered her capacity for learning.
Shanisha has evolved from a shy student to a point now where she is readily engaged, always polite and a responsible member of the class. Her communication skills have also improved greatly and now Shanisha is a valuable contributor during class discussions and in public speaking to her teachers.
Shanisha’s support and promotion of the Koorie Unit and the Mumgu-dhal certificate course to her Community has resulted in her brother now signing up for Mumgu-dhal classes.
As Koorie Student of the Year, Shanisha Simpson is a clear ambassador for vocational training and her success has demonstrated to others with external responsibilities, that study can be possible, rewarding and very successful.
