TAFE Gippsland is proud to announce they’ll be represented as finalists in two categories at the 2022 Wurreker Awards.
The upcoming VAEAI Wurreker Awards, to be held in Melbourne this year, are held annually to recognise and celebrate progress achieved under the Wurreker Strategy, and Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan.
Shortlisted as a finalist in the Training Provider Awards category for ‘Innovative Koorie Learner Pathways – TAFE Award’, TAFE Gippsland has been recognised its active involvement in Koorie education, with specifically designed courses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People that reconnect them with their culture, heritage and to link them into cultural studies, further education and employment opportunities.
TAFE Gippsland teacher Alan Solomon is also nominated as a finalist in the individual category of ‘Teacher/Trainer Award’, which recognises the contribution that individual teachers or trainers make to the engagement of Koorie students and their learning experiences and achievements.
TAFE Gippsland CEO Laura McPherson said the nominations are a welcome recognition.
“The nominations are a great acknowledgement of our dedication to building connections with the local Koorie community, offering them a chance to get job ready, explore study options and build their confidence in a safe space,” Laura said.
“I wish Alan all the best in his category and to TAFE Gippsland for its nomination in the Innovative Koorie Learner Pathways category. Whatever the outcome, it’s great to be valued for our innovation and achievements in this space.”
The Wurreker Awards categories cover all aspects of Koorie vocational training, employment and pathways and highlight achievement, inclusion, and best practice in the sector and are a celebration of how high-quality training can open up new directions for Koorie people.
