Students from TAFE Gippsland will again have the opportunity to showcase their creative flair at this year’s Captured: Student Photography Competition and Exhibition at Traralgon Centre Plaza from Monday 30 October to Sunday 5 November.
Last year’s overall winner ‘Grey Ghost’
TAFE Gippsland Visual Arts teacher Tara Little said this will be the second exhibition we have held since our Certificate III in Visual Arts Photography course started in 2018.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to put their work on display and give Gippsland locals a taste of their artistic abilities,” Tara said.
“I’d really encourage anyone to come along, whether you’re interested in art or not, to have a look at what our talented students are capable of.”
Exhibition visitors will have a chance to vote for their favourite photo on display and help decide the winner of the People’s Choice Award category. With more than 70 pieces to choose from, Tara said it will tough to decide on a winner!
“If last year is anything to go by, the judges will certainly have their work cut out for them,” Tara said.
“The students received some great feedback last year and the calibre of the entries were outstanding.
"It’s such a great opportunity for the students and for us at TAFE Gippsland to show our dedication to supporting arts in the Gippsland region.”
The judging panel for the competition side of things includes Gabriella Duffy Assistant Curator Latrobe Regional Gallery, Fon Pape from Fon Pape Photography and retired photographer Dave Landua.
There are also some great prizes up for grabs thanks to a generous group of event sponsors including a lifetime membership to Story Art Education with Karen Alsop and vouchers from Kayell Australia, Full Picture and Ted’s Camera House. Gerard Lappin of Aerial Extras in Traralgon has also donated an aerial photography flight to the value of $300 as part of the first prize package this year.
The People’s Choice Award winner will receive a voucher from Traralgon Centre Plaza.
