Five TAFE Gippsland students are competing at the WorldSkills Australia National Competition & Skills Show this week, as part of Team Victoria.
The competition kicks off in Melbourne this Thursday 17 August, with events running until Saturday 19 August.
Louisa Daly (Certificate II in Salon Assistant), Abbey Jeffs (Certificate III in Electrotechnology), Rob McNeilly (Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical), Justin Hibma (Certificate III in Electrotechnology) and Sebastian Battista (Certificate III in Plumbing) are all keen to get their campaign underway.
“I’m looking forward to Nationals so I can find out what I’m really made of under intense conditions,” said Abbey Jeffs.
“It’s a great opportunity to learn and develop in your area of study. Anyone thinking about competing at regionals next year should give it a go.”
TAFE Gippsland program manager and WorldSkills Nationals mentor Paul Clerks said the team should be proud to be competing at such a large-scale event.
“To be representing their state at a competition of this scale is no mean feat,” Paul said.
“Their skills will be on display in a series of events as they compete with students from other Australian TAFEs and private registered training organisations to make it through to the final round.
“I’m confident in all of their skillsets and hope they enjoy the experience.”
You can still register to go and see the 2023 WorldSkills Australia National Championships & Skills Show this Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Over the three days, you’ll get to learn about career pathways from more than 120 education providers and employers and get to see Australians best apprentices and trainees in action, competing in more than 60 skills competitions.
