Gippsland. With its great environmental diversity, ranging from alpine environments to extensive coastal areas along its southern edge, the region is known for its breath-taking mountain landscapes, diverse range of flora and fauna and high quality of water in its rivers and streams. A place worth preserving.

Protecting the environment is front of mind and top of agenda for many organisations around the world, not just on days like World Environment Day, but every day. You could say, there’s never been a better time to get in on the eco-action and start playing a bigger role in protecting Mother Nature from the front line.

Explore the world of conservation

No science degree, you say? No problem! At TAFE Gippsland, you can explore a biome of environmental career fields in our food, fibre and conservation industry.

Program Manager Agriculture, Horticulture & Conservation Dr Kimberly Damsma said if you’re passionate about the environment, a qualification in conservation and ecosystem management will set you on a path to a fulfilling career working in the great outdoors.

“You can learn all about fauna habitat management, mine site rehabilitation, bushland fire management and ecological restoration in a Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management – all increasingly important issues facing our immediate environment here in Gippsland,” Kimberly said.

“Wherever your passion lies, you’ll be able to start playing a part in conserving our planet in a variety of ways including natural area management, Indigenous lands management, parks and wildlife roles and project firefighting. You’ll be able to get outdoors and practice your team skills while learning navigation techniques, plant identification, water sampling and testing and photography for monitoring and recording information.”
