The simple act of enrolling in a TAFE Gippsland course back in 2021 turned out to be the fork in the road that set Abbey Williams on her ‘forever career’ pathway.

The former Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing student is high-fiving her 19-year-old self for enrolling in our Certificate II in Animal studies three years ago, as she lives out her professional dream in the big smoke.

“I have moved from country life to city life and am now working as surgical veterinary nurse at a specialist referral and emergency hospital in Melbourne,” Abbey revealed.

“I love my job! My plans do include further study. I have already started my Diploma of Veterinary Nursing here.”

Not bad for not really knowing what she wanted to do post high school!

Abbey was employed as a trainee vet nurse throughout her studies at TAFE Gippsland Bairnsdale, where she managed to consolidate her training and workplace experience thanks to the flexible nature of the qualification.

Abbey said she couldn’t have done it without the support of her trainers.

“My Placement Coordinator Mell Dawes supported me in my placement throughout the course and it was great to know TAFE Gippsland works with industry to provide great learning experiences,” Abbey said.

“I am so grateful for TAFE Gippsland as they helped me find and fall in love with this fulfilling career and for all the knowledge and support they provided with me throughout my course.”
