TAFE Gippsland’s apprenticeship and traineeship programs can help you achieve your employment goals across several career paths. When you secure an apprenticeship, you have secured a unique opportunity to kick start your career and gain valuable on-the-job experience, all while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

What are the benefits of doing an apprenticeship or traineeship?

First and foremost, you will be earning while you learn which means there is no need to put your life on hold while you study. Apprenticeships and traineeships are also a great way to get a head start in your chosen career. You also have the flexibility to study full-time or part-time, or you can undertake a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.

At the end of it, you can take your nationally recognised qualification wherever you want in Australia!

As an apprentice, am I eligible for financial assistance?

As an Australian apprentice or trainee, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the Australian Government to help with the costs of undertaking an apprenticeship.

How do I begin an apprenticeship/traineeship?

  1. Decide on which industry you want to work in
  2. Prepare your resume and find an employer
  3. Secure your employment as a trainee or apprentice through your local Australian Apprenticeship Support Network.
  4. Once your traineeship or apprenticeship has been registered with their local Australian Apprenticeship Centre, complete your enrolment with a Registered Training Organisation such as TAFE Gippsland
  5. Complete a training plan
  6. Get training!

What can I do to improve my chances of securing an apprenticeship?

For those who are having trouble securing a suitable apprenticeship or who would like to get ahead of the pack TAFE Gippsland offers several pre-apprenticeship courses.

These entry level courses provide you with skills and knowledge to increase your chances of securing an apprenticeship. In some instances, these courses can shorten the length of your apprenticeship by providing you with the same off-the-job training as a first-year apprentice.
